Most of my spells I tend to just do on the fly – while I do track using the Witchypedia Notion template, I don’t always PLAN out ahead.
In fact, my “on the fly” spell crafting style is exactly WHY I made the Witchypedia template. It looks like this:
- Look in the kitchen to see what food or herbs I have
- Choose an item that I’d be down to eat in some form
- Look up the correspondences to that ingredient to see what “themes” are related to the item
- Click to see what other ingredients are related to that “theme”
- Using what other things I know about magick and witchcraft, whip up a spell based on the theme du jour
Anyway – doing that spell is how I ended up having an incredibly lucky day, including meeting an actor from my ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOW EVER.
Pete Gardner doing an amazing job as Darryl from my fave TV show, Crazy-Ex Girlfriend
An extraordinarily lucky day
My lovely friend Sam (of YouTube show La Femme Fictionale), snagged us tickets to the live recording of the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Concert Special, and flew in from Texas to LA to come see it.
I went to pick them up at the airport – and here’s how things got weird.
- I left later than planned…
- Which meant we had to skip the lunch out I had planned…
- Which meant we get there early enough to see a line already forming outside…
- Which meant to us getting AMAZING second row seats…
- Which meant Sam was in a PRIME spot to win a free shirt (that, plus excellent knowledge on their part.)
- Which meant to us getting AMAZING second row seats…
- Which meant we get there early enough to see a line already forming outside…
- Which meant we had to skip the lunch out I had planned…
- After the show we tried to go to karaoke…
- Which was too full, which lead to…
- Us going to the ice cream shop, which lead to…
- Walking to our car “the back way”, which lead to…
- Meeting and snapping a photo with beloved character actor, Pete Gardner.

- Us going to the ice cream shop, which lead to…
- Which was too full, which lead to…
It was only after snagging myself some animal style fries on the way back & looking upon their own grilled onions, did I reflect…
“Mannnn that was an extraordinarily lucky day – if things didn’t all just perfectly fall into place just so” and then… “WAIT.”
DIDN’T I JUST CAST THAT “LUCKY ONION” SPELL?!
To be honest I’ve had SO many spells work and every time it STILL blows my freakin’ mind.
So – what IS “The Lucky Onion” spell?
I’m gonna give you the spell – but if remember from yesterday’s lesson: just because my spell works for me DOESN’T guarantee it’ll work for you.
FIRST: You’re gonna need some onions. (Pretty… obvious right? Well, this ain’t the “Lucky Turnip” spell.)
And some salt, some olive oil, and whatever skillet and stirring utensil ya got. I like a wooden spoon, but a silicone spatula is just as magickal if you’ve got the right intent behind it.
What we’re going to do is actually REALLY simple – this is where that whole “the power of your intent thing” comes into play.
You’re going to make caramelized onions.
BUT.
As you stir, you are going to pick ONE direction and STICK WITH IT. (Me? I’ll go with Harry Styles, 👀)
In general, with magick, you’ll have one direction means “drawing things to you” and one will mean “banishing things away.”
The traditional (aka probably-somewhere-along-the-line-came-from-the-Wicca-melding-pot) method includes “clockwise” as drawing things to you, and “counterclockwise” as banishing thing away.
BUT – what makes magick TICK is what things unconsciously mean to YOU, not the traditional thing you’re doing for the sake of doing it.
If you find that “clockwise” feels more like banishing and “counterclockwise” feels more like bringing things to you – test it out, track your results either way, and see what works best for you.
(And uh, if you want to make it easier, I’ve got the most amazing course in the world to help you with that. 👀)
As you stir, you’re going to think lucky thoughts, and if you want to go the extra mile, you’re going to “charge” the onions with those thoughts.
Then, you’ll use them wherever you use onions, and track how the spell works for you and lemme know. 😁

“The Lucky Onion” Spell
Alternate name: “The Condensed Luck” Spell
- 4 onions, cut in half, then sliced into thin arcs
- As you chop, think about some of the lucky moments you’v experienced in life.
- Oil of choice (I like olive oil, sometimes I toss in some butter.)
- Pinch of salt (1/2 tsp if you wanna be particular)
- Heat up your oil in a skillet on medium heat – ideally a 12-inch cast iron (for cooking skills, not magick skills).
- Add in your onions, and sauté for 5 minutes until the onions soften.
- Add your salt, lower the heat to medium low – and cook your onions down for about 45-70 minutes.
- You’re going to stir the onions every few minutes, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized goodness.
- HERE COMES THE MAGICK – As you’re stirring – STICK TO STIRRING IN ONLY THE DIRECTION that you feel “brings” you luck
- While stirring: Imagine all of your best, and luckiest moments. (If you don’t feel you’ve had luck, focus on your happiest moments, and if you feel you haven’t had happy moments, focus on happy moments from TV shows you enjoy – the point being is we’re infusing the onions with luck and happiness.)
- Bonus stirring energy: Imagine all your lucky thoughts/moments/etc, going from your brain, down your stirring arm, and energetically charging your onions as you continue to stir them, getting strong as you stir.
(FYI: Charging something energetically is the same deal with the “stirring” thing – you’ve got a “sending out energy” hand and a “bringing in energy” hand……. Sometimes it’s your dominant/non-dominant hand, respectively – and sometimes they’re flipped. Test out, see what feels right, and if in doubt: test & track.)
Use your lucky onions anywhere you’d use caramelized onions…
…like inside a hot sandwich, as pizza topping, inside an omelette.
My lucky day involved a “golden soup” that I had also added extra “luck” into, as I personally associate gold with luck. (Cause… pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.)
